June 19, 2006 - Torrance, CA -
The Legends of Ascot announced today that Al Unser Sr. is its Guest
Honoree, with Parnelli Jones as the Event's Special Guest. In
addition, Glenn Howard will receive the Legends of Ascot Lifetime
Achievement Award. The 4th Annual Legends of Ascot Event, being held
at Perris Auto Speedway on October 21, 2006, will be honoring
drivers Jimmy Oskie, Wally Pankratz, Walt James, Jack Brunner and
Lealand McSpadden. In addition, JFK car owners Jack and Wilda
Kindoll, and aluminum-block engine builder Ed Donovan, will be
honored.
In the newly expanded program, Al Unser is scheduled to be
"on-the-track", doing exhibition laps in the Vel's
Parnelli Jones Viceroy sponsored dirt champ car, with which he won
the 1973 USAC National Dirt Championship. Parnelli Jones will be
"on-the-track" in the beautiful Leonard Faas King O'Lawn
sprinter, and Jimmy Oskie, the CRA's only five-time Champion, will
be "on-the-track" in the bright red #1 Bromme - Dean
Thompson sprinter.
Racing enthusiasts from all over the US and Canada have enjoyed what
has now become the largest open wheel racers reunion of its type in
North America. The event celebrates the people involved in the 33
years of operation at Ascot Park, in Gardena, California, from 1957
through 1990. Past honorees include Parnelli Jones, Hal Minyard,
Allen Heath, Dean Thompson, Ted Halibrand, Bobby Hogle and J. C.
Agajanian, to name a few.
The Legends of Ascot Annual Event draws Vintage Race Cars from all
over North America, and some of the most historic midget, sprint,
dirt champ and Indy cars of the era, have been displayed. After the
day's activities, the Vintage Race Cars will have the opportunity to
stretch their legs on the ½-mile clay oval at the PAS.
The event is open to the public and gives race enthusiasts the
opportunity to meet and talk with some of the best and most famous
drivers of the era. Admission to the Event includes plenty of "bench
racing", snacks, the award presentations, auctions, raffles, an
excellent buffet lunch, collectable souvenir program, goodie bag,
the vintage racecar display, and admission to the evening's USAC/CRA
sprint car races. Every year the Event sells out and it's suggested
that attendees order their tickets to the event as soon as possible.
